Public Art Edina Working Group
Art is the soul of our culture.
An entire community's identity and unique character can be defined by public art. In addition to its enriching personal benefits, public art increases a community's assets and can boost real estate values and create opportunities for local businesses to thrive.
Applications Open:
Public Art Edina is currently accepting applications for open seats. Apply online here.
Funding
The Public Art Edina received seed money from the City to jumpstart its projects, with additional funds coming from corporate and private donors. Donations to make this program possible may be made to the Edina Community Foundation, 952-833-9573.
Art adds richness to our environment, defines who we are, and creates a sense of pride in our community with a tangible legacy that will last for generations!
What is Public Art Edina?
The residents of Edina have a strong sense of community and a love of culture and the arts. Formerly called the Edina Public Art Committee, this public art program began in 2004 as a committee of the Edina Art Center Board. Public Art Edina is composed of residents with the purpose of advising the Arts and Culture Commission in regard to all matters pertaining to public art within the community.
Goals include:
- Build awareness and pride in community heritage.
- Serve as a vehicle for public education in the visual arts.
- Make recommendations for creative fund-raising mechanisms to public art displays.
- Promote economic development through the arts.
Current members of the Working Group are: Chair Barbara La Valleur, Katy Elfstrand, Faye Ellison-Mitchell, Britt Eyngorn, Walt Gregg, Gary Hittle, Kate Kinnich, Kevin Komadina, Bill McCabe, Joan O’Brien, Philip Schimke, Cory Shubert, Forrest Simonson and student representative Audrey Sheehy. Art Center staff liaison is Michael Frey.
