Programs
A full-time Fire Department, Edina paramedic/firefighters not only act to save lives and property, but also facilitate several programs that improve the quality of life in the community.
Blood Pressure Readings. Firefighter/Paramedics provide blood pressure readings daily at Fire Station No. 1. Readings are available each day of the week from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Knox Key Lock Box Edina Fire Code requires that all businesses and multi-unit housing complexes utilize a key lock-box system in order to give emergency personnel access to the building in cases of after-hours medical or fire emergencies. The Edina Fire Department uses “Knox-Box” key boxes, which must be ordered from the manufacturing company.
Life File Edina's "Life File" is available for download on the City's website. Click Here. The Life File is an emergency medical form used by Paramedics during an emergency. Residents are asked to download, print and fill out the form. The form should then be placed in an envelope marked "LIFE FILE" and affixed to the outside of the refrigerator. Paramedics/firefighters look for the Life File envelope when they arrive at the scene of a medical emergency. The program has proved valuable in cases where a victim is unable during an emergency to provide the medics and hospital staff with such things as health history and emergency contact telephone numbers.
Safety Camp Youth entering 4th grade, don’t miss out on Edina’s Safety Camp - you get one chance to come since camp is ONLY for youth entering fourth grade. Find out that safety is fun through interactive sessions on a variety of topics! Campers will learn about fire, personal, water, electric, internet, animal safety and more. Each camper will receive a T-shirt, snack and a pizza lunch. The Edina Police, Fire and Park and Recreation departments are pleased to sponsor this event.
Smoke Alarm Installation. The Fire Department can install smoke alarms in single-family homes of qualifying homeowners. The free program was originally designed for seniors who don’t have family or neighbors able to help. Firefighters or a fire inspector can install the detectors, one per floor outside of sleeping areas. Residents who live in apartment buildings, condominiums or other multi-dwelling buildings are not eligible for the program and should call their property managers, as they are required to maintain those systems. Fire Department personnel are available for testing, installation and safety survey checks by appointment. Appointments last approximately 45 minutes and can be scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Smoke alarms are generously donated by Jerry's Hardware.
Speaker Request The Edina Fire Department not only save lives and property, but also works to improve the quality of life in the community. Speakers are available upon request for your class or group.
