Know your flood risk and be prepared!
Flooding: Frequently Asked Questions
Find out what your home’s flood risk is using the Interactive Water Resources Map or by viewing flood plain maps. These maps provide general regional flood risk data, not specific to any single year or storm. Houses outside of the mapped flood plain may also be at risk for flooding.
The National Weather Service provides warnings and forecasts for Hennepin County and Edina.
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District operates the Gray’s Bay Dam in accordance with an operating plan approved by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources to reduce the chances of flooding on Lake Minnetonka and Minnehaha Creek. For information about current release rates and flow data, please visit their website.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has a website with great information about preparing for floods. Visit www.ready.gov/floods for more information.
