Medication Disposal Program
With a donation from the Edina Crime Prevention Fund, the Edina Police Department was able to purchase medication disposal bags for residents to safely disposed of their unwanted or expired medication.
Edina Police Department Medicine Disposal
For small quantities of medication, the Edina Police Department provides medication disposal bags residents can use in their homes to discard medication. Each bag allow for the disposal of up to 90 pills, 12 ounces of liquid medication of 12 transdermal patches. The bags contain activated carbon, which neutralizes the medication and prevents it from contaminating groundwater and drinking water.
How to properly dispose of medication in the disposal bags:
• Place medication in the bag
• Fill the bag halfway with warm water
• Wait for 30 seconds
• Seal the bag
• Discards sealed bag
Medication disposal bags are available for pickup Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Police Department, 4801 W. 50th St. and Fire Station #1, 6250 Tracy Ave.
For more information, call the Edina Police Department at 952-826-1610.
