Arden Park Becomes a City-Recognized Neighborhood Association
Edina, Minn., April 9, 2015 – The Arden Park Neighborhood completed the process to become a City of Edina-recognized neighborhood association on Friday, March 27. The City now has nine recognized neighborhoods, including Arden Park, Creek Knoll, Chowen Park, Countryside, Concord, Morningside, Normandale Park, Pamela Park and Strachauer Park.
“Arden Park Neighborhood Association is excited to become recognized for all the possibilities of City and community engagement it offers,” said resident and Neighborhood Steering Committee member Sara Moran. “The new, official neighborhood is a change from days gone by, however we hope a more consistent way for residents to connect and get involved.”
The City established a recognition process for neighborhoods within the last two years, so the process is still new for residents. Recognized neighborhoods are often more involved in the early stages of projects and initiatives happening in their area and have more opportunities to communicate with the City. Becoming recognized also gives the City another channel to connect with residents. To become a City-recognized neighborhood association, neighborhoods must establish an organizing team of interested and involved community members, notify City staff that they are interested in becoming recognized, host a neighborhood-wide meeting and submit an application to the City.
“Edina constantly has activity that yields community engagement. Edina’s recognized neighborhood association program creates a platform for the City not only to share information directly with the neighborhood associations, but neighborhood associations have the ability to communicate back to the City,” said City of Edina Project Coordinator MJ Lamon. “The City is excited to see neighbors getting engaged and I look forward to working and supporting the Arden Park Neighborhood.”
“When choosing to make Edina our home, we chose it based on the strong legacy and our desire for a strong community into the future,” noted Moran. “I am committed to engaging in purposeful community activities. With our official Arden Park Neighborhood Association, forging and maintaining lifelong bonds with neighbors and the city as a whole seems more sustainable. My hope is that all neighbors will get involved as we grow!”
