Draft Plan for Wooddale/Valley View Small Area Plan Available for Review; Public Hearings Rescheduled

Edina, Minn., Feb. 25, 2015 – A draft plan for Wooddale/Valley View Small Area plan has been posted online for comment from community members. The plan can be found at www.EdinaMN.gov/wvv. Comments are being accepted on the Speak Up, Edina website at www.SpeakUpEdina.org.

Following the comment period, public hearings have been rescheduled for the 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 Planning Commission and the 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21City Council meeting. Both public hearings are in Council Chambers at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St.

“We really need the community’s input,” said Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt. “Doing the small area plan is really about learning about our residents’ vision for that area so that when a proposal does come forward, we’re able to better evaluate the project.”

The small area plan process began in June with a meeting that introduced the process to the area residents and businesses. A discovery workshop, held on Oct. 11, gave residents a chance to learn about the small area planning process and share their assessment of the Wooddale/Valley View commercial area. Long-range market trends and the economics of the area as well as future land-use scenarios were discussed at Nov. 8 Dream Workshop. A Progress Update meeting was held on Dec. 3 at the Edina Senior Center to check in on long-range scenarios and review foundational elements of the small area plan.
