City Continues Environmental Film Series With ‘Troubled Waters: A Mississippi River Story’
Edina, Minn., Sept. 4, 2014 – The City of Edina Energy & Environment Commission (EEC) will soon present the fourth installment of the 2014 Environmental Film series. The documentary “Troubled Waters: A Mississippi River Story” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. The documentary will be shown at no cost for attendees at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. Preceding the showing, a resource fair will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The Emmy Award-winning film tells the story of the unintended yet severe consequences of farming along the Mississippi, and the efforts being taken to reverse this damage. America’s heartland boasts some of the world’s most productive farmland, but this bounty has come with a price. Excess crop fertilizers are contaminating the nation’s rivers, lakes and aquifers, while at the same time precious soil is washing away.
“The film looks at a water quality issue many of us don't, and can't, see firsthand: the impact of run-off from farms on our waterways,” explained EEC Member John Howard.
The EEC encourages attendees to come early for the resource fair and stay after for a discussion following the movie.
For more information, contact Environmental Engineer Ross Bintner, staff liaison to the EEC, at 952-903-5713 or RBintner@EdinaMN.gov.
