Fire damages Edina home on Ayrshire Boulevard

Edina, Minn., Nov. 1, 2016 – The Edina Fire Department was called to the 5300 block of Ayrshire Boulevard at 11:21 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, after a passerby saw smoke coming from the home and heard the smoke alarms sounding.

Fire crews arrived to find an active fire on the main floor of the single-family home that had spread to the attic. Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control and extinguish it. The house sustained structural damage, along with smoke and water damage. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Working smoke alarms save lives,” said Fire Marshal Jeff Siems. “We’re coming up to the end of Daylight Savings Time, which is one of two times each year when we remind residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms when they reset their clocks.”

The Edina Fire-Rescue & Inspections Department received mutual aid from the Hopkins and St. Louis Park fire departments.
