Public is Invited to Edina Art Center Up North Holiday Gift Gallery
Edina, Minn., Nov. 10, 2016 – The Edina Art Center will hold its annual Up North Holiday Gift Gallery Nov. 17-Dec. 28. The gallery features one-of-a-kind handmade gifts created by 47 regional artists.
“This sale, previously known as ‘Gifts, Gifts, Gifts!,’ has been held for over 20 years,” said Edina Art Center General Manager Michael Frey. “Our focus is on handmade and handcrafted items. We have a variety of gifts, including jewelry, pottery, paintings, prints, re-purposed cashmere and wool items such as mittens and bird-nesters, handcrafted wood cutting boards and one-of-a-kind wood items from some of our favorite artists each year.”
A members-only preview hour will be held 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17. Members will receive a special gift, plus an extra 10 percent savings on any purchase made anytime on Nov. 17. Following the preview hour, the gallery will open to the general public during the evening gallery grand opening from 6 to 8:30 p.m. A warm holiday beverage will be served and specialty food items will be available for purchase. If you’re unable to attend the grand opening, the public is invited to visit the gallery during regular business hours anytime between Nov. 17 and Dec. 28.
“One thing that is different about our show is that we really focus on handmade, artist-designed gifts by artists who are in that fine craft or fine art field. They aren’t imported or antique,” said Pottery Studio Manager Sandra Shaughnessy.
Each year, 10 or more new artists are invited to exhibit in the gift gallery, in addition to the favorite artists routine shoppers have come to expect year after year.
“New this year, we’ll be open between Christmas and New Year’s. So we’ll be open for those very last-minute shoppers,” said Frey. “Our work is unique to this Art Center; we think that’s important as well. We hope people will take a moment to visit the gallery to view these unique pieces.”
Shoppers are encouraged to shop early and often. New items will be restocked as needed throughout the season. The gallery is open to all and will have a range of price points to fit any budget, from $5 to $250.
