City to hold buckthorn dump for residents

Edina, Minn., Sept. 21, 2015 – The City of Edina Public Works Department will hold a buckthorn dump in October so that residents can rid their yards of the invasive shrub.

Residents may drop off their buckthorn brush at a site on Ikola Way across from the Braemar Golf Dome. The site will be open Saturdays Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.

Residents must show a picture ID with a current Edina address. Commercial haulers are not allowed to leave buckthorn brush at the dump unless they are accompanied by the residents for whom they are working. Buckthorn brush cannot be bagged, boxed or bundled. If it is, it must be removed from the container before being left at the dump.

Buckthorn, native to northern Eurasia, spreads quickly and displaces other, more desirable plants. It can grow on almost any site that is not continually mowed. For more information on buckthorn removal, visit www.EdinaParks.com. For more information on the buckthorn dump, contact City Forester Tom Horwath, 952-826-0308.
