Open house for Highway 169 construction in western Twin Cities metro set for Aug. 19

The following is a press release issued by the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The public is invited to learn about future improvements to Highway 169 between Highway 55 in Golden Valley and Highway 62 in Edina at an open house scheduled for Aug. 19.

The informal open house will be held from 4 – 6 p.m. at Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Mainstreet in Hopkins, Minn. The proposed construction is scheduled for fall 2016 through fall 2017.

Work includes:

  • Replacing the Highway 169 bridge over Nine Mile Creek in Hopkins, Minnetonka and Edina.
  • Closing sub-standard highway ramps along the west side of Highway 169 at 16th Street in St. Louis Park.
  • Improving the safety of Highway 169 entrance and exit ramps at Cedar Lake Road in St. Louis Park and Minnetonka.
  • Repairing pavement on Highway 169 between Highway 55 and Highway 62.

These projects will improve driver safety and accessibility, and provide a smoother road surface and longer lasting bridge.

This work is expected to cause major traffic impacts as Highway 169 will be closed for one year at the bridge over Nine Mile Creek between Bren Road and Seventh Street. The remaining project area will be reduced periodically to one lane in each direction for the pavement repairs.

Open house attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the overall project and get details about specific project elements, project schedule and next steps in the overall plans for Highway 169. Representatives from the Minnesota Department of Transportation and project staff will be on hand to answer questions.
