Open house for Highway 100 pavement repair project in Edina, Bloomington and St. Louis Park, set for July 15

The following is a press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Roseville, Minn., July 7, 2015 – The public and business communities are invited to an informal open house to learn about a pavement repair project on Highway 100 between Interstate 494 in Bloomington and W 36th Street in St. Louis Park.

Engineers from the Minnesota Department of Transportation will be available on Wednesday, July 15, at Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St., between 5 and 6:30 p.m. to discuss the project and to answers questions.

Construction is scheduled to begin July 20, weather permitting, and be completed in fall 2016.

During construction motorists can expect several weekend closures of the highway and of the nine bridges and associated ramps along the stretch of road. Construction crews will also remove the current median guardrails and install concrete median barriers.

The construction will provide a smoother road surface, improve and extend the life of the pavement, and improve safety by installing concrete median barriers.

2015 Traffic impacts 

July 20 through late August

  • Hwy 100 between south of W. 70th Street to north of Hwy 62 reduced to two lanes in each direction.
    • Motorist will be shifted on to the shoulders on Hwy 100 over 70th St
  • Eastbound W 66th St over Hwy 100 (10 allowable days)
    • Detour: Normandale Rd (west frontage road), eastbound 70th St and northbound Normandale Rd (east frontage road).
  • Short-term, off-peak closure of W 70th Street at Hwy 100 (30 allowable days)
    • No detours; traffic will be controlled by periodic lane closures
  • Short-term, off-peak lane closures on Hwy 62 under Hwy 100 (60 allowable days)
  • Benton Avenue over Hwy 100 will close for two consecutive days.
    • Westbound detour: Normandale Rd (east frontage road) turns into Wilson Rd, westbound Eden Ave, and southbound Normandale Rd
    • Eastbound detour: Normandale Rd (west frontage road), eastbound Eden Ave, southbound Wilson Rd. that turns into Normandale Rd (east frontage road).

Late August through late October

  • Hwy 100 traffic will shift to the inside shoulders over 70th Street (For repairs on outside of bridge.)
  • Eastbound W 66th Street at Hwy 100 will close. There will  be one lane of traffic in each direction, on one side of the bridge.
  • Short-term, off-peak lane closures on Hwy 62 at Hwy 100
  • Short term lane/ramp closures on Hwy 100 at Hwy 62


Weekend closures of Hwy 100 (tentatively scheduled for Sept. and Oct.)

  • Three weekend closures of southbound Hwy 100 between Hwy 62 and I-494
    • Detour westbound Hwy 62 southbound Hwy 169 and eastbound I-494

Ramp closures during the weekend closures

Southbound Hwy 100 to eastbound Hwy 62
Westbound Hwy 62 to southbound Hwy 100
Eastbound Hwy 62 to southbound Hwy 100
70th St to southbound Hwy 100

  • Three weekend closures of northbound Hwy 100 between I-494 and Hwy 62
    • Detour eastbound I-494 northbound I-35W and westbound Hwy 62
